Gaming is an industry that has suffered from fraud and piracy for years. With the advent of blockchain, gaming companies are taking steps to utilize this technology in order to combat these issues while also creating new opportunities for developers who have always been at a disadvantage when it comes to competing with free-to-play titles.
Ubisoft has announced that they will be developing a game using the new blockchain gaming development.
Ubisoft has made tremendous progress towards blockchain usage during the course of 2021. It has now disclosed plans to create its own play-to-earn environment.
Ubisoft has said unequivocally that it is starting to build its blockchain side of business. It will create the infrastructure necessary to incorporate blockchain dynamics into its economic model, with the goal of incorporating these ground-breaking concepts into the next generation of Ubisoft titles.
Getting the ball rolling
Ubisoft joined the Tezos network as a validator node in April. After that, they became a channel node operator for Aleph.im, a DeFi network solution, three months later. They went on to become a founding member of the “Blockchain Gaming Alliance,” which saw them stand beside the NFT sphere in an open letter to Valve, whose own blockchain attitude was less welcome.
Ubisoft is now taking things a step further. They invested in Animoca Brands, the company behind The Sandbox, last month. They declared shortly after that they were developing their own in-house play to gain division. Although this new layer of support is still in its early stages of development, the company’s senior executives were eager to demonstrate their faith in the project.
A vote of confidence is cast.
Frédérick Duguet, CFO, commented in the latest Q2 results report:
“Blockchain will enable more play-to-earn, allowing more gamers to earn and own content, and we believe it will significantly boost the industry.” We’ve been dealing with a lot of small businesses who are interested in blockchain, and we’re beginning to have a decent understanding of how it may affect the sector, and we want to be one of the important players here.”
So, in this fascinating war for NFT game acceptance, Ubisoft has picked their side. And the blockchain community is waiting to see which direction the next large player will take.
