Silk Road's Ross Ulbricht Announces Second NFT Collection

Ross Ulbricht, a controversial character on the Web3, has announced the introduction of his second NFT collection. The collection will be launched from the confines of his jail cell, where the creator of the now-defunct Silk Road network is serving a life sentence plus 40 years without parole for his participation in the controversial online bazaar.

The ‘Growth Collection’ will be auctioned off during the Bitcoin22 conference in Miami on April 6th and 8th via Scarce.City. It will be made up of four actual oil paintings and one hand-drawn animation (with 318 hand-drawn frames), each accompanied by a Bitcoin NFT and a Bitcoin-tokenized certificate of authenticity.

The collection also pays tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, who turns 47 the day before the event.

Ulbricht has gotten a lot of press since he was arrested in 2013 for running and owning the website, which he was accused of allowing users to purchase and sell illicit narcotics and other illegal products and services anonymously. He argues, however, that the emphasis of the collection should not be on his conviction, but rather on how he feels he can still make a difference despite his seeming permanent confinement. “Rather of concentrating just on myself, we may look more widely at making the whole system fair, which is exactly what we should do.” There is a great deal of work to be done… All of this has given my life a new lease of life. I have a sense of direction and purpose, and I believe I can once again make a difference. The more money we raise, the more good we will be able to do. I’ve poured my heart, soul, and intellect into this collection, and I’m excited to share it with you.”

Ulbricht’s widely challenged jail term, which many believe is 10 years too long, will enter its tenth year on October 1st of this year. At the time of writing, a little more than 475,000 individuals have shown their support for the crypto pioneer by signing a clemency petition to advocate for his release.

Despite being imprisoned for so long, the Austin-born software mogul was able to create an immensely successful ‘Ross Ulbricht Genesis Collection’ late last year, which sold for $6.27 million at Art Basel Miami.
