Everyone, welcome to CryptoArt Sundays! This week, I’m ecstatic to finally be highlighting an artist that I’ve been following for a long time and who is at the top of my list, and who, like myself, is from South Africa. Lethabo Huma is a multi-talented artist.
Her work is mostly concerned with her emotional reactions, ideas, and experiences as a young African woman. She’s created a reputation for herself in the CryptoArt community, with work appearing in prominent magazines and events such as Christie’s – Proof of Sovereignty: A Curated NFT Sale by Lady PheOnix and Sotheby’s – Natively Digital: A Curated NFT Sale.
Let’s get started learning more about her experience as an NFT artist!
What drew you to construct your own NFTs and how did you learn about the NFT space?
I learned about the area via a buddy at Bloomberg Crypto, whom I met while studying computer science at university. I was interested to learn more about NFTs when he phoned to inform me about them since I was familiar with the blockchain.
How frequently do you make something?
It mainly depends on how much time I have, but I make an effort to produce something every day, even if it’s only a simple or little form.
How do you go about coming up with ideas?
To draw, I use a program called ProCreate. I don’t have a specific method, but I do follow two distinct ones most of the time. When I have a broad idea for a piece, the following step is to look for references and/or inspiration that will complement my concept. I sometimes come across a picture that sparks an idea or notion I’ve been thinking about for a long, and I use it and other sources to create my work.
Do you have any CryptoArtists with whom you’d want to collaborate?
Micah Johnson, Nyla, and Fewocious are all people I’d want to work with!
What do you believe CryptoArt’s future will be like?
From an artistic standpoint, I think that there will be filmmakers, poets, musicians, and dancers in the space who work in a variety of genres.
What are you working on right now?
On SuperRare, I’m now working on the second installment of my BLOOM Series.
What are the locations where collectors may locate your work?
SuperRare is where collectors may locate my art.
