Meet AlienQueen, a self-employed crypto artist and semi-professional storyteller. Her art ranges from digital paintings to illustrations in the style of her favorite Pop Art icons like Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso for altcoins such as Dogecoin, Dark Horse Comics’ The Tale Of One Bad Rat !
CryptoArt Sundays is a crypto-art event that takes place every Sunday at 1pm PST. The event was started by AlienQueen and has been going for over a year now. This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing her about her experience with CryptoArt Sundays.
Greetings, and welcome to CryptoArt Sundays! This week, I’m thrilled to introduce you to AlienQueen, one of my newest favorite NFT artists.
AlienQueen’s unique style of illustration, which is bright and full of details, is one of my favorites. Her work, which she created in Cambodia, portrays the country’s culture and customs. AlienQueen claims that her work is heavily influenced by her dreams and the memories of her family, who are survivors of the holocaust known as “The Killing Fields.”
Let’s dig in and learn more about this wonderful artist and her experience thus far in the NFT area!
What drew you to construct your own NFTs and how did you learn about the NFT space?
I was particularly fascinated when I saw a story in March (10 years ago in NFT era haha) about Grimes selling $6 million worth of NFTs. That’s when I decided to look into the NFT movement and join it. I’ve been doing digital art professionally and as a pastime for years, and I was thrilled to discover that there was a new market for digital art by converting my drawings into NFTs. I wish I had known about NFTs sooner, but I’m pleased I jumped into the movement in March without hesitation.
How frequently do you make something?
I produce every day, and my projects take a long time to complete, so I grab my iPad and sketch whenever I have a chance throughout the day. In our industry, time is valuable, therefore I try to make the most of it by working on my NFTs on a regular basis.
How do you go about coming up with ideas?
I prefer to go for it while listening to various forms of music (sound on while seeing my WIP tweets!) I prefer to be in a quiet room with a glass of wine or a cigarette and relax.
I began with cultural works in this place (I’m a Cambodian immigrant). The Degenz project drove me to draw on my experiences with different psychedelics, and I had so much fun doing the pfp work that I’ve been pushing myself in that direction.
Do you have any CryptoArtists with whom you’d want to collaborate?
This is a really challenging task. I won’t name any since they are still in the works. I’m also not going to list my buddies since I’d want to collaborate with them all because I adore them all. Neurocolor and Xcopy are two ideal collaborations that spring to mind.
What do you believe CryptoArt’s future will be like?
I believe the community will continue to expand as more traditional artists join forces with new, brilliant artists. I believe that the genuine OGs’ work will become more sought after, and that the following generation of artists, who began in early 2021, will be the true OGs. I believe we will see more virtual galleries, as well as real galleries with monitors showcasing digital art. PFPs will be enormous and will represent our Twitter/metaverse personas, but 1/1 will become more popular in the future. I’m looking forward to the remainder of this year and 2022.
What are you working on right now?
I’m currently working on some trippy drawings and serving as the art director for The Divine, a generative collectable project.
