The “balmain barbie collection” is a fashion collaboration between Barbie and Balmain. The collection will be released on the NFT platform and is one of many collaborations that are being created in the world of crypto.
Barbie, the fashion and pop culture arbiter, has teamed up with premium French design house Balmain to release a set of limited-edition NFTs. Under the Balmain label, the team will also create a ready-to-wear fashion and accessories line, which will see Barbie’s iconography join the realm of wearable fashion.
The Balmain x Barbie NFTs will be available for bidding on mintNFT starting January 11th, while the ready-to-wear collection will be available for purchase in Balmain’s physical and online shops starting January 13th.
The NFT collection has three one-of-a-kind Barbie and Ken avatars, each dressed in a different Balmain design from head to toe. The NFTs will also include a unique, one-of-a-kind set of Barbie-sized Balmain items, providing owners with both digital and physical gratification.
Oliver Rousteing, Balmain’s Creative Director, shared insight into the 50-piece Balmain x Barbie ready-to-wear apparel and accessory line, claiming that the logo-heavy, celebratory collection does not cater to a specific target group.
“As our campaign photos show, Barbie and Balmain are embarking on a truly multicultural, inclusive, and always joyful trip. We’re expanding on Balmain’s previous New French Style collections for this collaboration, demonstrating once again that Balmain is inspired by the really varied and thrilling beauty seen on today’s Parisian boulevards and avenues. This collection also opposes any unnecessary gender restrictions, since it is virtually entirely unisex. Because, as today’s Barbie demonstrates, nothing can hold us back any longer.”
Barbie and Balmain have also developed a digital campaign to promote the collaboration, in which fans can get a sneak glimpse at the ready-to-wear collection by looking at the costumes of modeling Barbie avatars.
